DEVISED THEATRE

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Theatre has always been a collaborative process where various artists come together, working to ensure the overall complexity of an experience, for those on stage as well as in the audience. Devised theatre brings into focus the process of making theatre where everybody is welcome to contribute in as many diverse ways, erasing the line between performer and author; executor of ideas vs. a collaborator, an instigator, a witness, a confidante.

Aimed at participants who wish to explore the creation and development of ideas for performative forms that are not based on previously written plays but various stimuli such as everyday problem situations, scraps of text, visual clues, rhythm, music, choreographic tasks; the workshop deals with constructing scenes, story-lines and images through a number of individual and group assignments. It explores the notion of 'performative response', a method used to create a non-verbal, non-critical discussion of other people's work and it challenges the rules and limitations of a traditional theatrical rehearsal process, opening up to creative interventions.
