PUPPETS RULE!

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Did you ever want to fly, float, do triple salto mortale, be a dwarf or a giant, but you always have to deal with the physical laws of the stage? Puppets can do more than you have ever wished! This workshop will not deal with puppets for children but will process all aspects of puppet creation for youth (high school, student) and adult audience. In the first part, the participants will get to know the basics of the puppet theatre for youth and adults. They will select the certain text, make the adaptation, write the dramatization and create a directing concept (selection of techniques, visual design, choice of music ...)

The second part of the workshop will deal with the construction of puppets, with which participants will prepare a short puppet production, based on the first part of the training. They will learn about the basics of puppet animation for each technique. 

Life – before I met Barbara – could be described in one word: BORING! George Lucas, a film director and producer Special emphasis will also be placed on the possibilities of using puppet elements in the "normal" theatre performance and how puppet way of thinking can enrich the creation on the stage.

Barbara Bulatovic'

is one of the most known Slovenian puppeteers. In 1990 she has graduated at École Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette (ESNAM) in Charleville-Mézières, France. After postgraduate studies of puppet stage design at Prague Academy DAMU, she returned to Slovenia in 1992. As an animator, director, set designer or script writer she has worked in all Slovenian puppet and other theatres. Having settled in Ljubljana since 1997, she leads workshops for students, amateur and professionals, dealing with art puppetry and exploration of the world of abstract. Beyond creating puppets or designin scripts and roles, she loves, above all, creating inspiring conditions for self-expression, as a creative act that is vital in the development of any single actor.
